Classroom Presentations

With so many children coming from single parent homes or homes where both parents work, it is imperative that our youth learn how to choose and prepare food items for themselves and their siblings.  Through the Tomorrow's Kitchen "Little Hands" Project,  I bring all of the product, equipment, and recipes to the classroom and I cook with the students using age appropriate recipes and equipment which enables me to be able to teach all ages from pre-K through grade 12.

Program Benefits:

  • Participants receive classroom instruction in basic culinary, basic knife skills, and basic kitchen safety and sanitation

  • Participants are introduced to shopping for product and using existing product (i.e. leftovers) and are shown how to cook or utilize the items for meals or snacks

  • Participants learn the benefits of healthy eating and choosing foods to help them meet their nutritional goals as well as cooking techniques for a variety of foods

  • Participants will be able to pick and choose quality fruits and vegetables

  • Participants will be able to operate small kitchen equipment and feel comfortable maneuvering around the kitchen by themselves

  • Participants will be able to prepare food items and snacks for their siblings and themselves

  • Participants develop an appreciation for food and cooking

  • Participants develop kitchen confidence and self-esteem that will stay with them throughout their life

  • Participants experience food and food cultures that may not be a part of their everyday lives.

The lessons are built upon developing good eating habits and learning fun alternatives to the standard cereal and milk, eggs and bacon, and soup and sandwich type meals.  We also do fun things like Cupcake Wars, Christmas Cookie Bouquets, and specialized hoilday projects.
